Recently, I decided to reorgaznie all my desktop pencil/pen cups, in an effort to assess everything I have and clean up in the process. This prompted me to fix this one problem I have with them (they’re just simple glass jars and tea tins I’m reusing). I don’t like how the sharp points of pencils get dropped onto the hard surface at the bottom! Surely, that can’t be good for the lead?
Good thing I remembered that I’d saved these thick, dense pads of styrofoam that came inside a new Herschel iPad case, because they turned out to be a quick and fast solution to my problem. I cut these styrofoam pads to fit the bottom of my pencils cups, and voilà, they are now cushioned.
I did zero research on this. Do you do anything to the bottom of your pencil/pen cups? I’m just glad I was able to use something I already have and that the styrofoam doesn’t look as messy or ugly as I thought it would inside glass jars.
Most of all, I’m happy that I don’t hear the “thunk” anymore whenever I return a pencil (or pen). It’s oddly fun to see tiny dark holes starting to dot the bottom, too. We’ll see how long these last.
